The Lactalis American Group announced a plant expansion today that will make a significant impact on the Boise Valley and the State of Idaho.  We are proud that the Lactalis American Group is a partner of the Boise Valley Economic Partnership, and we look forward to welcoming the new fresh mozzarella plant.

CHEESE MANUFACTURER ANNOUNCES PLANS TO ADD JOBS AND INCREASE LOCAL SPENDING TO MEET NEEDS OF PRODUCTION EXPANSION
Lactalis to expand its mozzarella production in Nampa, Idaho

NAMPA, Idaho – (February 6, 2012) – Lactalis American Group announced plans today to increase fresh mozzarella production at its Nampa facility.  The production expansion will add jobs and increase the company’s purchase of local and regional dairy.
 
The Nampa facility, located in East Canyon County, has been producing cheese for over 10 years and is the largest Groupe Lactalis production plant in North America.  Lactalis plans to increase mozzarella production from 7 million pounds to 31 million pounds per year to meet growing global demand. 
 
The increase in production will add approximately 70 jobs to the local economy.  The Lactalis Nampa facility currently employs 600 area residents.
 
Lactalis has always been committed to buying needed milk supplies from local and regional dairy farmers.
 
“I applaud Lactalis for their decision to use their Nampa plant for increased cheese production,” said Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter.  “Idaho is proud to be home to the company’s largest manufacturing facility and we appreciate their commitment to buying local agricultural commodities.  Our state and our region will enjoy the economic benefits of this production expansion for a long time.”

Construction on the plant will begin March of 2012 and last for approximately 10 months.  Local construction contractor Hansen-Rice will oversee the expansion effort.  Lactalis expects production on the expanded fresh mozzarella plant to begin spring of 2013.
