Idaho Wine Country
Vineyard soils in Idaho are comprised of primarily volcanic-ash. Add long, warm daylight hours during grape growing season and cool summer evenings characteristic of desert environments, and you have a combination of factors that contributes to producing quality wine grapes with concentrated fruit flavors and naturally high acidities.
Seventeen of Idaho's 23 wineries are located in south Idaho's Snake River Valley. The Snake River Valley will be the name of Idaho's first appellation if the AVA application submitted to the US Department of the Treasury's Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) is approved. Popular wines produced in the Snake River Valley include those made by Ste. Chapelle Winery , Sawtooth Winery, and Koenig Distillery and Winery.
