Micron Technology, Boise Valley’s largest private employer, started up in the early 1980s with smart entrepreneurs and strong financial backing. The same combination has led to many other high-tech startups and spinoffs, spawned by innovative engineers, who tap financial support from angel investors, business incubators and venture capital groups like Highway 12 to grow their businesses. In 2008, Forbes named Boise as the nation’s 7th best up-and-coming high-tech city.

Ugobe is one of the latest high-tech companies to move its headquarters to the Boise Valley, providing a substantial anchor to the newly formed Eagle-Star Technology Corridor near Boise. The robotics manufacturer liked Boise’s low cost of doing business, educated workforce and quality of life – features that attracted Hewlett Packard to the Boise Valley a quarter-century ago.
